The conspiracy begins to fall apart when you realize Morroco Mole is actually an asura

They’re shifty, those Arenanet folks. Always hiding something. Hiding something up their sleeves, using the unknown to press their marketing advantage. I think they like it. I think their marketing department are sadists. That’s the first thought I had when I read their blog post about Linsey Murdock moving on to another in-house project at Arenanet and being replaced by John Stumme.

Here’s a quick quote from Ms. Murdock about her leaving the Guild Wars Live team.

This wasn’t an easy decision for me to make, but I have accepted an exciting new position here at ArenaNet; a position I can’t talk about for some time.

Its all a big secret.

My mind momentarily flashed back to a memory from years ago. I had been reading MMOG Nation, a blog by Michael Zenke. He had been working for Massively I believe, or in any case, wrangled an invite to the Anet studio to get a tour of the then forthcoming Eye of the North expansion for Guild Wars. If I remember correctly he played around in game, got an interview, asked a couple of early questions about Guild Wars 2 and in one off-hand comment said the following.

What the hell was in the super-secret development area at Arena’s studio. They had a whole room where they freely admitted they couldn’t tell us what was going on, and wouldn’t for probably another year or two.

3 years later and I’m still pretty curious.

You know I actually laughed out loud when I saw who the first commenter was on that post. My question was direct and to the point.

so this super secret room was guild wars 2? or something entirely different?

Michael’s reply.

It was not GWII. It’s another, third, unannounced game.

Whatever it was, its still a mystery. If I had to guess? Maybe an RPG set in the same universe. Like for instance a pre-quel set during the time of the Guild Wars, before the searing. Wild guess of course. Since I have no other information to go on. What do you guys think?

As a side note, a couple of the other commenters in the posts I looked through to find this looked familiar. Particularly Regina Buenaobra, at the time an X-fire employee, now community manager for Anet, not to mention a couple Guru notables I think.

Anyway, am I suggesting that Linsey Murdock has moved on to this mystery science theater project? Perhaps, but its more likely that she’s moved on to the first expansion of Guild Wars 2. When Prophecies was released a team was already working on Factions, and the same with Nightfall. Too bad they have to be so secretive about it.
